‘Winning Time’ actor Newton Mayenge on how Larry Bird will like his character in Season 2

The series famously ruffled some feathers in its first season.

A new season of the NBA-focused series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” is coming in early August, and actor Newton Mayenge believes the real-life Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Larry Bird will like how his character is portrayed in the second season. The series famously ruffled some feathers in its first season. Magic Johnson and Jerry West famously panned their portrayals in the popular series.

In a recent interview with TMZ, Mayenge related he views the series as something of a love story, and that he and the rest of the cast intend to present the players in a positive light while staying true to the events. Playing Lakers big man James “Bunny” Chones, the North Carolina has plenty to say about the soon-to-arrive second season of the dramatization of the Celtics-Lakers rivalry of the 1980s.
