Oregon Duck baseball fans didn’t get to see Sabin Ceballos play long, but for the one season he did play, it was memorable.
The junior college transfer, who led the Ducks in home runs and led them to a Pac-12 Conference tournament title, was selected in the third round of the MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves.
Ceballos was the 94th overall pick.
For the 2023 season, the Puerto Rico-native led Oregon with 18 homers and 70 runs batted in while hitting at a .333 clip.
He was named to the All-Conference tournament team as the Ducks defeated Arizona in the title game.
As a professional, Ceballos would be hard-pressed to stay at third for the Braves as they will have Austin Riley manning that position for years to come. Some project the 6-foot-4 player as a shortstop, but most likely in the Atlanta organization, Ceballos might be a catcher. No matter where he plays in the field, the Braves obviously drafted him for his bat, which will translate to any league.
