Entering a crucial contract year, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to be the focal point of the passing game.

Despite posting a career-high 99 receptions in 2022, the disastrous play of the quarterback position limited him to just 925 yards. That’s the fewest yardage for a wide receiver with 99 receptions in a season since 2000.

So it’s no surprise that CBS Sports listed Pittman Jr. as the team’s most under appreciated player:

He probably gets enough love in Indy, but what about elsewhere? Do we take into account the fact he’s experienced the Colts’ infamous QB whirlwind firsthand? Even with Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz as his top arms the last two years, he’s totaled 187 catches for 2,007 yards and 10 touchdowns, securing almost 70% of his targets. Get him a real counterpart and let him thrive.

The constant carousel of quarterbacks cannot be easy for a wide receiver. Going from Philip Rivers to Carson Wentz and then to the trio of Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles would tank any player’s stats.

However, Pittman Jr. continued to prove he’s the unquestioned leader in the wide receiver room both on and off the field. No Colts wide receiver has more receptions than Pittman Jr. (227) through their first three seasons in the league.

As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Pittman Jr. will continue to be the top target in the passing game.
