Brooklyn Nets wing Mikal Bridges came into the 2018 NBA Draft as one of the players that draft pundits thought would be able to make an impact on almost any team. The way Bridges tells its, he wanted to make the impact with the New York Knicks.
In a recent with the “Run Your Race” podcast, Bridges was asked about his mentality going into the 2018 draft. While Bridges has previously expressed that he was upset about being trade by his hometown Philadelphia 76ers to the Phoenix Suns on draft night, he says in this interview that he thought that he was going to the Knicks at ninth overall and that he wanted to go there.
Bridges, 26, was traded to the Suns for a little over four seasons before being traded to the Nets this past season in the Kevin Durant trade. Bridges welcomed the trade to Brooklyn even though he was disappointed in being traded at first, but it seems like the Villanova alum is becoming used to the business of the NBA.
Mikal Bridges on his mindset before the 2018 draft:
“I thought I was going to go to New York at 9. I was excited though because I wanted to go to the Knicks, I wanted to be in New York, I’m like that’s lit… and I love MSG, all my best games in college were there.”
