‘He’s an absolute legend’: Fighters bid farewell to Robbie Lawler ahead of UFC 290 retirement fight

It’s been one heck of a ride for “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, who’s laying down his gloves at UFC 290 to cap a 22-year MMA career.

LAS VEGAS – Former UFC welterweight champion [autotag]Robbie Lawler[/autotag] is laying down his gloves Saturday night.

Lawler will meet Niko Price in his retirement fight at UFC 290 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. When the bout ends, win or lose, 41-year-old Lawler will cap off a career that has spanned more than 22 years and 46 professional bouts.

Ahead of UFC 290, fighters shared their favorite memories from Lawler’s memorable career of highlights – chief among them his first successful title defense against Rory MacDonald in 2015 at UFC 189, an absolute war that will entered the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame on Thursday.

“The fact that the man, in all of his fights, didn’t go for a submission once, that is the coolest thing ever, and that is so bad ass,” Dricus Du Plessis said. “He has all my respect, and he’s an absolute legend.”

You can watch the video above to hear from Alexander Volkanovski, Yair Rodriguez, Brandon Moreno, Robert Whittaker, Du Plessis, and more.
