USC recruiting in depth: Marquis Gallegos scouting report

Marquis Gallegos has the physical tools to compete at an elite level.

The Trojans picked up another big-time prospect last week with a commitment from four-star 2024 Sierra Canyon (Calif.) safety Marquis Gallegos. The four-star defensive back Gallegos chose the Trojans out of a top five that included Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Oregon.

Gallegos has recently transferred to Sierra Canyon for his final high school season, set to play with fellow 2024 commit Xavier Jordan, a four-star wide receiver.

Gallegos recorded 96 total tackles, 11 pass defended, seven interceptions, four tackles for a loss, and a defensive touchdown for Chaminade as a junior.

He has a good skill set and the potential to rise. Gallegos reminds me of other USC safeties who possessed good height and length, having the physical makeup to play free safety at the next level.

The productive safety has been a solid run defender and tackler in high school over the past few seasons. Gallegos has the potential to rise as a high school senior and then in college if he can show more pass-coverage ability, which did improve last year.
