It came down to Alabama, Florida and Michigan for four-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley, but the Tampa native decided to join the Crimson Tide in the end.
Grimsley announced his decision on Saturday citing the team’s long history of producing NFL-caliber defensive players. Ultimately, failing to get Grimsley on campus for an official visit might have cost Florida this race.
“What really set (Alabama) apart for me was just their consistency throughout the years as a program,” Grimsley said to On3. “Head coach Nick Saban being hands-on with the DBs and how they’ve had long corners like me get drafted in the first round. They know how to bring out my full potential and they are always competing for the natty. To top it off it just makes sense that Saban is a defensive-minded coach and they’ve had plenty of corners get drafted in the first round.”
Grimsley is a four-star recruit everywhere except Rivals.com, where he comes in at No. 38 among cornerbacks in the class. The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, has him much higher, though.
Grimsley is No. 181 nationally and No. 22 at his position on the industry ranking
