The Brooklyn Nets have already begun some of their free-agency duties by extending a qualifying offer to wing Cam Johnson and not extending qualifying offers to David Duke Jr. and Dru Smith. For Brooklyn’s most important free-agent, it seems that his best move is to stay with the team that traded for him.
According to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, the ideal landing spot for forward Cam Johnson is with the Nets. Now that Brooklyn has extended a qualifying offer to Johnson, he will be an restricted free-agent when free-agency officially opens up on July 6 when teams can actually sign free-agents.
Johnson, 27, came to the Nets in the Kevin Durant trade and since he landed in Brooklyn, the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft has been a revelation for the Nets. In 25 games with Brooklyn, Johnson averaged 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 37.2% from three-point land. Per multiple reports throughout the offseason, Johnson is expected to land a contract in free-agency between $20 million and $25 million per year.
