Where UNC basketball ranks in 247Sports preseason top 25

The UNC basketball program has cracked the top 25 for 247Sports preseason rankings in the 2023-24 season.

Hubert Davis and his staff have the tough task of getting the UNC basketball program back on track after it missed the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

North Carolina returns Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis, the lone two starters that are coming back after eight players entered the transfer portal this offseason. It also welcomes a two-man recruiting class headlined by Elliot Cadeau and a four-man transfer portal class. But what does the media think of UNC’s chances this season?

Cody Nagel of 247Sports released his updated preseason top 25 after the 2023 NBA draft, and he has the Tar Heels cracking the list at No. 22:

The Tar Heels just missed out on the NCAA Tournament, but return two key veteran pieces in R.J. Davis and Armando Bacot. Head coach Hubert Davis rebuilt the roster with several transfer additions — Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers — as well as incoming five-star freshman Elliot Cadeau.

The ranking is fair for the Tar Heels. They still have a great many questions coming going into the season. Especially after the team missed the tournament last year, a season after making it to the title game.

We still have to see this team on the court together but the early outlook from the moves that were made appears to be positive.
