For Rutgers golf, Monday was met with excitement as news broke that Martín León was added to the 2023-24 roster. León is an international junior from Santiago, Chile, with two years of eligibility remaining. He comes to Rutgers with high expectations and an impressive list of accolades.
The Chilean native has recorded 23 rounds at par or better in his two seasons of college golf. León was a 2021 Polo Open Champion in Chile and a 2021 Utah State Amateur Champion during that span. Due to his resume, head coach Rob Shutte is excited about what León brings to the program.
“We had recruited Martín the first time around and he’s had an outstanding college career,” Shutte told Rutgers athletics. “He’s excited to see a different part of the country and be a part of our culture. He’s a proven college player who has had a lot of success. He brings a lot of experience to the table, and we are excited to add him to the mix. He’s a super supportive teammate that’s looking forward to being outside the shadows of New York City and helping us win.”

Additionally, León competed in the 2022 NCAA Regionals in Norman, OK, and the 2022 NCAA National Championship in Scottsdale, AZ. On a Rutgers team that set program records last spring, León’s experience will be a welcomed addition.
With León now in the fold, Rutgers golf should again be one of the best in the country this upcoming season as their future just got brighter.
