Did the three-team deal that would have sent Malcolm Brogdon from the Boston Celtics to the Los Angeles Clippers with Washington Wizards big man Kristaps Porzingis coming back in return get nixed because of the seriousness of Brogdon’s injury? Or was it simply a lack of time to check out how serious it could be?
That depends on who you ask, it seems. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on an episode of “Get Up,” Brogdon has a health issue … that as I understand, is so significant, that not only can the Celtics not do this trade, there’s probably no Malcolm Brogdon trade that they can do in the short term.”
Contrast that with what we are hearing from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, who reports that “the Clippers’ reversal on Brogdon was centered on not having time to complete a physical exam.”

“It’s still unclear whether Brogdon will need surgery on his forearm,” added the Globe reporter. “But if he does, the belief is he’d still be ready for the start of next season.”
These two takes seem pretty far apart, though a source “familiar” with Brogdon’s thinking seemed to echo the latter while also making it clear staying in Boston was his preference in an article by The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.
For now, only time can tell how the 2023 Sixth Man of the Year will heal — and where he will be playing on opening night.
