The Boston Celtics are closing in on a three-team trade for Kristaps Porzingis that will have major effects on the team moving forward, which were highlighted by HoopsHype’s Yossi Gozlan.

Among the highlights is the fact Gozlan believes the deal “will likely be executed during the current salary cap year” because of the more flexible trade rules in effect until July 1 and because the trade would make it far less likely for the Celtics to retain unrestricted free agent Grant Williams.

They could sign and trade Williams to another team for draft assets and/or cheaper players to maximize their asset pool as they head into a likely expensive era of title contention.

This move is not the last splashy addition Boston could make to the team either, though they will have less money to work with. The team is projected to be $8 million below the second tax apron with 12 players under contract. That allows them to use the $5 million taxpayer mid-level exception.

Be sure to check out the article in full here to see the full potential ramifications of the deal for all three teams involved at present.
