Bengals’ free agency options possibly expand with Pats releasing James Robinson

Another notable free agent the Bengals might consider at some point this summer.

There’s an outside chance the Cincinnati Bengals still get with running back Joe Mixon and give him a contract ultimatum.

And even if they don’t, the list of free agent running backs still available continues to intrigue.

The Patriots releasing James Robinson recently only added to this. The former undrafted free agent, still just 24 years old, was the breakout star in Jacksonville back in 2020 when he ran for 1,070 yards and seven scores.

But an Achilles injury at the end of the 2021 season has derailed his momentum to the point he saw minimal usage last year with the Jaguars and got traded to the Jets before getting cut at the end of the season.

Despite the injury struggles, Robinson is still one of those super-talented backs the Bengals could add over the course of the summer and actually improve the depth of the roster.

Other names still out there include Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook, to name a few. Keep in mind Robinson’s situation and the overall state of the position (no free agent that has signed made more than $6.25 million average annual value this offseason) is why Mixon speculation continues to come up.
