Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was at Great American Ballpark last week to participate in batting practice with the Cincinnati Reds, and he hit four home runs using catcher Tyler Stephenson’s bat.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reported that Burrow commented on Reds’ young star Elly De La Cruz, who recently made his MLB debut and has been flashing impressive tools in his short time in the major leagues.
Here’s what Burrow had to say:
“He’s exciting to watch. You kind of see how the city rallies around guys when they are up and coming and have a chance to be great. It’s exciting that the city embraces you like that. Those guys over there are starting to feel it because they put together a little run here. That’s something we’ve felt and with FC Cincy, too, the energy in the city right now is exciting.”
De La Cruz is the No. 1 prospect in all of MLB and has shown elite speed and power to go along with the Reds’ recent streak to put themselves into the mix to win their division.
Even with the Bengals in the middle of the offseason, Cincinnati sports have been exciting and Burrow has certainly taken notice.
