Texas A&M basketball extends head coach Buzz Williams through 2028 season

Coach Buzz isn’t leaving anytime soon! Following one of their most successful seasons, Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams received a well-deserved contract extension through the 2028 season.

After Texas A&M basketball put together one of their most successful seasons in recent memory, their fearless leader is officially locked in to run it back for years to come.

In an official announcement shared through social media, the TAMU System Board of Regents approved a contract extension for head coach Buzz Williams that will run through the 2028 season.

Texas A&M’s Director of Athletics Ross Bjork offered high praise on the impact Williams has had on the Aggies basketball program. Furthermore, extending Coach Buzz was a straightforward decision given how he exemplifies the core values of Texas A&M:

“Buzz Williams is a tremendous leader and role model for our student-athletes, and he’s a great example of Texas A&M’s core values. He’s taken our men’s basketball team to new heights over the past two seasons with even brighter days ahead. It was an easy decision to ensure that Buzz is here in Aggieland for many years to come as we continue our mission of creating opportunities through championship athletics.”

Williams expressed his gratitude to the System Board of Regents and shared his admiration for the Bryan-College Station community:

“Corey and I are extremely grateful to the Texas A&M System Board of Regents, President Banks, and the entire athletic department administrative staff for their belief and support in our program. Our family loves the Bryan-College Station community and Aggieland, and we’re grateful for the support of the 12th Man.

We’re proud of what our teams have accomplished, which is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our players and staff. We are excited about the future of Texas A&M Basketball and humbled for the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Williams is fresh off his fourth season in Aggieland, having led the Maroon and White to a 25-10 record (15-3 SEC), a second consecutive SEC title game, and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018. He was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the second time in 2022-23, after first receiving the honor in 2019-20, which was his first season at the helm of the Aggies.

The accomplishments Williams has compiled so far in Aggieland make this extension a straightforward, and well-warranted decision. And as the Aggies head coach would likely concur, the best is only yet to come moving forward.

Congratulations Coach Buzz, now BTHO the SEC, and the NCAA! Gig ’em!
