The 2023 NBA Draft is just one week away, but the Chicago Bulls don’t have a pick. Their first-rounder is owed to the Orlando Magic, and the NBA stripped them of their second-rounder, as they concluded the Bulls tampered when signing Lonzo Ball in 2021. But just because they don’t have a pick doesn’t mean they won’t make one.
There has been a ton of trade buzz leading into the draft, especially with teams in the lottery. Elias Schuster of Bleacher Nation broke down some of the teams who could look to trade their top picks in this year’s draft, urging the Bulls to get involved.
And while Schuster believes the Bulls should blow it up, he thinks they should aim to trade for a top pick regardless of if they choose to undergo a full-on rebuild this summer.
“With so many teams seemingly willing to strike a deal, it’s time for the Chicago Bulls to take a walk around the blacktop,” Schuster wrote. “They don’t need to commit to one game just yet, but they’re putting themselves at a disadvantage if they don’t at least try a game of four square or take a swing on those monkey bars.”
He sees the 2023 NBA Draft as a huge opportunity for Chicago.
“At the end of the day, though, if the Bulls at all hesitant about where building around this current core will lead (and they should be), this upcoming draft presents a great opportunity,” Schuster wrote. “All reports seem to indicate that teams are eager to pick up the phone and talk business. I’m simply crossing my fingers that the Bulls recognize that, particularly when we consider the limited spending power they’re projected to have in free agency.”
If the opportunity presents itself, the Bulls should absolutely look to trade into this year’s draft.
