The combination of how the 2022 season concluded, along with the moves the team has made this offseason, has expectations low for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. Many analysts envision the Rams struggling again this season, but Matthew Stafford isn’t concerned with the outside noise surrounding the franchise.
“I don’t pay too much attention to it. I know what we’re trying to do is build a really good football team here and that takes work,” Stafford said. “Whether people think it’s going to happen or not doesn’t matter to us. Just because people said we should win the Super Bowl two years ago didn’t mean we won it. We put the work in and executed. So that’s the mindset that we’re taking and happy to be where we’re at.”
Since last season ended, the Rams have notably parted ways with Jalen Ramsey, Bobby Wagner, Leonard Floyd, Allen Robinson, Greg Gaines, and Nick Scott. The Rams currently possess the second-most dead money in the NFL in 2023, causing many to believe they have their sights set on the future.
Due to the departures on both sides of the ball, the Rams are going to be leaning on a handful of inexperienced players at premium positions. At the same time, the Rams still have veterans like Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Aaron Donald to rely on.
The Rams aren’t currently viewed as a legitimate contender in the NFC entering the 2023 season despite winning the Super Bowl less than two years ago. Even with expectations at an all-time low under Sean McVay, Stafford believes the Rams are in a good spot right now.
