Jahan Dotson says Sam Howell is ‘our guy’

Jahan Dotson is “excited’ to make plays for Sam Howell.

Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson enters his second NFL season in 2023, with some believing he is a potential breakout candidate. Despite missing five games as a rookie, the 2022 first-round pick led the Commanders with seven touchdown receptions.

Dotson had an impressive rookie season, even with inconsistent quarterback play. Dotson caught passes from Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke and Sam Howell. All but Howell are elsewhere in 2023, and the Commanders have decided to go all-in with the second-year passer from North Carolina.

While head coach Ron Rivera hasn’t named a starting quarterback but all signs point to Howell. Veteran Jacoby Brissett will not make it easy on Howell. However, Dotson thinks the Commanders have their guy, and it’s Howell.

“I think we got our quarterback situation settled,” Dotson said in an appearance on “The Jim Rome Show. “I think Sam Howell’s gonna be our guy. I have complete faith in him. He’s a guy who, I always say this, he makes throws look super effortless on the field. He’s been a great leader; he’s learning how to lead an offense……I’m super excited for him, and I can’t wait to get out there and make plays for him”

Dotson is excited to play in new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s offense. Dotson tweeted right after Bieniemy was announced as the OC, sharing his excitement, something he’s continued to express since getting to know his new boss.

“Having Coach Bieniemy here with us, I’m truly grateful for it,” Dotson said. “Because he’s going to bring the best out of you as a player.”
