Wisconsin great Jonathan Taylor is attempting to buck the recent trend in NFL running back contracts, as he told the media Thursday he and the Indianapolis Colts have had recent contract extension talks.
“Hopefully they can see my value,” Taylor said, according to Steven Holder of ESPN. He also acknowledged the market trend at his position, with stars including Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook either currently struggling or flat-out unable to land long-term deals.
Taylor finished his dominant Wisconsin career with 926 carries, 6174 yards and 50 touchdowns in only three seasons. He burst onto the scene quickly in Indianapolis with a combined 2980 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first two seasons.
The Wisconsin great is currently working back from an ankle injury that plagued his 2022 campaign in Indianapolis.
The IndyStar’s Joel Erickson tweeted Taylor expressed a desire to retire a Colt, something that will likely not be possible unless the two find common ground on multiple long-term contracts.
An important step for Taylor is returning to his excellent form on the field this season. His hope is an initial long-term contract is reached before that point.
