BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU women’s tennis’ Anastasiya Komar and Kylie Collins were named the No. 1 doubles duo in the final ITA Southern Regional rankings of the season.
The regional rankings are posted yearly by the ITA following the conclusion of the season. The regional rankings include the Top-10 Teams, Top-20 Singles, and Top-10 Doubles for every region. LSU was ranked No. 2 in team rankings, trailing only an Auburn team that finished in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. As a team, the Tigers finished the 2023 dual season with a 13-11 record, an eight-game improvement from their 5-14 record in 2022. The team returned to the NCAA Tournament in May after missing out last season.
Komar and Collins were ranked No. 1 after an 11-1 season playing together. The pair earned five wins over ranked foes and were named to the 2023 ITA Doubles All-American team for their effort.
The top doubles duo of Komar and Collins were joined by the sister pairing of Safiya and Noor Carrington in the doubles rankings at No. 10. The sisters claimed five wins when playing together, including two against ranked foes.
Four Tigers were also ranked in the singles rankings. Komar finished top of the leaderboard at No. 1, Collins No. 4, Safiya Carrington at No. 12 and Nina Geissler rounding it out at No. 17.
Komar’s campaign saw her finish with a 33-8 overall singles record, 19-2 in dual matches. She picked up 12 wins against ranked foes and earned a spot on the 2023 ITA Singles All-American team. Komar became only the third player in program history to receive doubles and singles All-American honors in the same season, joining Bruna Colosio (2000) and Joana Valle Costa (2017).
Collins finished at No. 4 in the singles rankings. She concluded the 2022-23 season with 13 singles wins and was ever present in the rankings, rising as high as No. 7 and earning an at-large berth in the 2023 NCAA Singles Championship.
Safiya Carrington finished her career in Purple & Gold with a spot at No. 12. The South Hadley, Massachusetts posted a career-high 20 wins in singles on the season, eight coming against foes in the SEC.
Geissler rounds out the team in the regional rankings with a singles spot at No. 17. The Switzerland native earned 15 wins on the year, including ten in dual matches playing primarily at the No. 2-4 spots. Her singles wins helped the Tigers secure crucial team wins, including clinching SEC wins against Ole Miss and Kentucky.
