Tampa Bay Buccaneers EDGE Shaquil Barrett is somewhat of an unknown for 2023, but he still has the potential to produce in his fifth season with the Bucs.
Pro Football Focus recently ranked the NFL’s top 32 pass rushers, and Barrett was the only Tampa Bay player to make the cut. He was ranked at No. 20, in the fourth of five tiers, by PFF writer Trevor Sikkema.
Here is what Sikkema wrote about Barrett:
Barrett is coming off an Achilles tear, so who knows what he’ll be in 2023; however, since 2019, he’s been one of the league’s most productive and savvy pass-rushers.
How Barrett recovers from his Achilles tear will determine how his season goes. For positions that rely on explosiveness, an Achilles tear like the one that Barrett suffered is one of the most difficult injuries to come back from. On top of that, Barrett is 30 years old, so he’ll have to battle general wear and tear of age as he recovers.
However, if he is able to stick to form, his ranking is warranted. Barrett had a 10-sack season in 2021, so it would be foolish to count him out entirely for the coming year.
