When you are the senior member of the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line, it’s only natural that young players will gravitate to you for insight and guidance. This is the position defensive tackle Cam Heyward finds himself in with so many youngsters on the roster.
It’s a role Heyward seems to be ok with but as he noted, “he’s not trying to be Mother Goose”. The fact is as much as Heyward knows young guys like DeMarvin Leal and Keeanu Benton need to learn from him, Heyward is focused on getting better himself as he’s forever the perfectionist. Heyward wants to lead by example.
Pittsburgh’s defensive line rotation is shaping up nicely this offseason. Heyward, along with Benton and Neal are joined by Larry Ogunjobi, Montravius Adams and Breiden Fehoko to create what should be one of the most complete and deepest defensive lines this team has had since Heyward joined the team in 2011.
