Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is entering a crucial season as its the final year of the rookie contract he signed after being drafted in 2020.
The 25-year-old wideout was ranked 30th among all wide receivers by Pro Football Focus, and they gave him some praise as an intermediate target.
30. MICHAEL PITTMAN JR., INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
Pittman has had to shoulder the burden of being the Colts’ top receiver since he entered the league. While he might benefit from a true complementary threat on the other side, Pittman has already shown he can be an outstanding possession receiver that has caught 54.0% of his career contested targets and dropped only 5.4% of catchable passes.
Statistically, Pittman Jr. is coming off a down year despite recording a career-high 99 receptions. He nearly became the youngest player in franchise history to reach the century mark for receptions in a single season.
However, the incompetent quarterback play held Pittman Jr. back from exploding during his third season as he finished with just 925 yards and four touchdowns.
Whether his numbers will get more efficient with rookie Anthony Richardson under center remains to be seen—rookie quarterbacks generally are not conducive to explosive campaigns for their supporting cast. However, it’s hard to imagine the quarterback position being much worse than it was in 2022.
Pittman Jr. is a strong player and solid leader that have at the top of the wide receiver depth chart, and he’ll be looking to climb up this list when we circle back around this time next year.
