USC football remains in the national top 20 of 2024 recruiting rankings

Only two top-20 schools have fewer commits than USC in the Class of 2024. When the Trojans’ numbers start increasing, they will make up ground.

The recruiting rankings in college football are fluid. It’s only the second weekend of June. So much will happen in the coming weeks and months. Yet, it’s still interesting to keep tabs on these rankings, monitoring how they will and won’t change over time.

After USC successfully recruited four-star linebacker Elijah Newby this week, the Trojans — who had been No. 19 in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings for the 2024 cycle after their Sunday-Monday flurry of commitments — are still at No. 19 as of Friday evening.

What is also notable about 247Sports’ recruiting rankings is that USC has established this top-20 position based on only nine commitments. There are only two schools ranked higher than USC with fewer than nine commitments: Alabama and Florida, both with eight each. Those two schools, like USC, are bound to collect a lot more commitments as the cycle continues.

Oregon is seventh in the recruiting rankings, but the Ducks have secured 14 commitments, five more than USC. When USC’s number of commitments rises, the Trojans — who are getting a very high average rating per commitment — should soar up the board and rapidly make up ground.

USC has a lot of official visits lined up for the next few weekends. USC could very realistically be in the top 10 by the end of June.
