The Carolina Panthers selected former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young first overall in the 2023 NFL draft and wasted no time in making him the team’s top quarterback. Head coach Frank Reich announced that Young now sits atop the depth chart as the Panthers’ QB1.
Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 and continued to impress in 2022 despite the rest of the Crimson Tide team being relatively lackluster. His ability to remain calm in times of immense pressure and create plays is what sets him apart.
Reich, when speaking to media, had this to say:
“Bryce has taken the snaps with the ones this week,” said Reich. “That was something at the beginning that (general manager) Scott (Fitterer) and I kind of earmarked the time when we thought would be best. Kind of mapping out, talked it through with the staff, you know, at the beginning of the offseason, this was kind of the time that we had marked this week to just kind of move him up.”
It’s worth noting, however, that while Young is now QB1 on the depth chart, a Week 1 starter has yet to be announced. Veteran Andy Dalton sits just beneath Young as QB2.
