When it comes to Penn State’s scheduling strategy over the years, the formula has been fairly simple. Penn State has tended to stick to having as many home games as possible, leading to the Nittany Lions to load up on scheduling contracts that often result in single home games or multi-year deals with an extra home game included. But in recent years, Penn State has started to branch out a little bit more with home-and-home contracts with power conference opponents.
Unfortunately, some of those deals have not panned out. Virginia worked its way out of a return trip to Beaver Stadium in recent years after hosting the Nittany Lions, and a home-and-home series with Virginia Tech that was to begin in 2020 has apparently been put on the chopping block for the foreseeable future. But Penn State still has some fun games ahead to keep fans interested.
In addition to their nine-game Big Ten schedules to look forward to (including games with Ohio State and Michigan on an annual basis), Penn State has future matchups lined up with Auburn and West Virginia as highlights on the nonconference schedule. Penn State will also renew an in-state series with Temple and will host FCS opponents Villanova and Delaware.
Here is a look at the updated future schedules for Penn State through 2027. The Big Ten schedules are currently up to date through 2023.
