Auburn is still one of Labaron Philon’s ‘top choices’ despite decommitment

Auburn is still in the mix for the No. 1 player from Alabama in the 2024 recruiting class.

[autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] is one of the top players in the 2024 recruiting class and for over three months he was committed to Auburn.

Despite backing off his pledge on April 21, there is still mutual interest between him and [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag]’s staff. Philon recently spoke with Dushawn London of 247Sports about his recruitment and said the Tigers are one of the schools pursuing him the hardest.

He plans to return to Auburn, which he calls one of his “top options right now.”

The point guard from Mobile also shed some line on why he decommitted from the Tigers.

“I decommitted because of the change of staff, roster changes and little minor things,” he explained. “As of right now doing my research I’ve seen they’ve cleaned everything up. They also got Tahaad (Pettiford) and that’s my guy. I also know a couple more guys with Auburn in their top choices.”

The biggest staff change that happened around the time of his decommitment was Wes Flanigan leaving Auburn to join Chris Beard’s staff at Ole Miss, another school that is in hot pursuit of Philon.

Baker is the No. 39 overall player and No. 4 point guard in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Alabama.

The 6-foot-4, 177-pounder averaged 34.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists for Baker last season. He was named the MaxPrepsGatorade, and Alabama Mr. Basketball of the Year for his work.
