Even though it’s been impressive watching Orange Cassidy defend his International Championship nonstop, week after week, there’s been an unshakable feeling that at some point, his hectic pace of title defenses would catch up with him. That could very well be tonight on AEW Dynamite from Colorado Springs.
See, the problem this time out is that he’s facing Swerve Strickland, arguably his most dangerous challenger to date. Swerve nearly won the title at the Blackjack Battle Royal at Double or Nothing, and you can assume he’ll be doing whatever it takes to capture the gold tonight.
Another singles match with potential Forbidden Door implications will see Ricky Starks go up against “Switchblade” Jay White. Juice Robinson is banned from ringside, which is good for Ricky, but do we really think Bullet Club Gold is staying at two members indefinitely? Smells like potential hijinks.
We’ll also see the Blackpool Combat Club trio of Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta face a Chaos team of Rocky Romero and the Best Friends. Yes, we also forgot Best Friends were in Chaos. You know who else is? Kazuchika Okada. Considering he and Bryan Danielson are going to collide at Forbidden Door, might the Rainmaker show up and make his presence felt on Dynamite?
Here’s what else AEW has promoted for tonight’s episode of Dynamite:
- AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander will take on Anna Jay
- The “JungleHook” team of Jack Perry and Hook will do battle with Preston Vance and Dralistico in a Texas Tornado tag match
- We’ll hear from MJF
- Tony Khan will make yet another AEW: Collision premiere announcement, this time about the main event … also, holy crap, that’s only 10 days away now
Yes, tonight’s Dynamite is up against Game 3 of the NBA Finals, but that’s why humankind invented multiple screens. Tune in at 8 p.m. ET on TBS or check us out here at Wrestling Junkie as we’ll have a live blog going when the show begins.
