Over the years, many fighters have taken their talents to the squared circle, including some of the biggest names in MMA. Former UFC Champions Ken Shamrock and Ronda Rousey have both had successful stints in WWE, while Paige VanZant has also appeared on AEW programming.
Even current UFC star Conor McGregor has teased a potential foray into WWE for some time now, but nothing materialized.
Recently, the New York Post asked UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Amanda Nunes if she would ever become the next MMA star to join WWE — to follow in the footsteps of Rousey and Shayna Baszler — to which she replied that she has accomplished her goals in MMA and would join if the contract was “amazing.”
“If the contract is amazing, why not?” she asked. “What I wanted to do in MMA, I did already — even more than I thought in my head when I went through my whole career. I became a double champion. I wanted only one — I had two … I’m so happy, and whatever comes after I’m done with UFC, we’ll see. For sure you guys will see me around, anyways.”
At 35 years old and without wrestling experience, Nunes’ jump into pro wrestling now may be more difficult given the training she needs to endure before stepping into the ring, although other pro wrestling stars have managed to succeed with limited move sets over the years.
Nunes could potentially become the crossover draw that Endeavor desires under the merged UFC and WWE company if she ever makes the jump. Along with her current title, she is a two-time former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and also has a win over Rousey at UFC 207, which accelerated her stardom at the time.
Although this is just a question she responded to, many MMA stars have already become pro wrestlers, so maybe Nunes will take the leap one day.
