Indianapolis Colts rookie tight end Will Mallory has yet to participate in during the first two weeks of OTAs due to a foot injury he suffered during the team’s rookie minicamp in May.

Mallory, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, suffered the injury while running a route during one of the practices. Head coach Shane Steichen didn’t provide a timetable for his return when speaking to the media Friday.

“He’s got a little foot injury. It happened in rookie mini-camp actually just running a route, but no timetable on his return. We’re just being smart with him as well,” Steichen said.

Mallory is an interesting player to keep an eye on. His skill set as a receiver and his threat of speed make him an intriguing fit for Steichen’s offense. However, this setback could lead to him losing some ground in the competition against third-year player Kylen Granson, who has already impressed his new coach.

Hopefully, the Colts truly are holding the rookie out of practice more as a precaution, but this will be something to monitor entering the final two weeks of the offseason workout program.
