Texas basketball head coach Rodney Terry received huge news on Wednesday. Dillon Mitchell is coming back to Austin for another season.
The Longhorns forward had entered his name into the NBA draft to pursue a potential pro start, but he will now return to his college team. Make no mistake about the importance of the news. Mitchell makes Texas a viable second weekend contender again next season.
In addition to Mitchell, Terry and company are set to retain forward Dylan Disu and guard Tyrese Hunter from last year’s Elite Eight team. The team added Oral Roberts scoring threat Max Abmas at guard and Virginia forward Kadin Shedrick as well.
The team faces an uphill battle in returning to what it was last season, but Mitchell is the caliber of player that could break out for the team. His development might see the Longhorns feature his long-range shooting ability moving forward. Texas is now stocked for a strong season in Rodney Terry’s first full year as head coach in Austin.
