Brian Kelly said there’s work to do to reach Alabama and Georgia’s level

Kelly is happy with the work LSU did in Year 1 but knows more steps need to be take to compete with the SEC’s best.

In Destin, Florida, for the SEC spring meetings, Tigers coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] appeared on Paul Finebaum’s show Tuesday evening.

Finebaum asked about LSU’s place in the SEC. After LSU beat Alabama in Kelly’s first year, many are starting to wonder if the gap is closing.

“We still have some work to do quite frankly,” he said. “Georgia and Alabama have been the standards here…but we’re up for the challenge.”

There’s no hiding the SEC according to Kelly and he said he knew what the expectations were when he took this job.

Kelly was pleased with the progress LSU made in 2022.

“We found our way to the finish line. We had a couple of bumps along the way, but it was a good first year,” Kelly told Finebaum.

That’s a fair self-evaluation from Kelly. LSU showed fight, coming back in several games and got back on track after losing the opener.

The win over Alabama is a strong feather to put in the cap, but LSU was also blown out by the two best teams in the SEC east last year.

LSU looks to make another jump this year with the expectations in Baton Rouge being even higher.
