Five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau made it official on Tuesday. The guard is opting to reclassify from 2024 and join the UNC basketball program as part of the 2023 class. He plans to enroll in Chapel Hill in June.
Cadeau’s commitment adds a third recruit for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels in the 2023 class, joining Simeon Wilcher and Zayden High. In the 2024 class, Cadeau was a five-star prospect ranked No. 11 nationally by 247Sports.
But where will he rank when he’s moved to the 2023 class?
Eric Bossi of 247Sports offered his analysis on the Cadeau decision and even revealed where he would be ranked in the 2023 class. Bossi said Cadeau will be No. 12 in his 2023 debut, the second highest-ranked point guard behind only Isaiah Collier who is No. 2 overall:
Cadeau came into the spring as the 11th-ranked prospect in the national class of 2024, but internally we had him slotted to crack the top five in our next update based on what we’d seen most recently.
In 2023, he’s going to debut at 12, making him the second-highest-ranked point guard in the class behind Isaiah Collier. That is significantly higher than what I would have expected a couple of months ago, but he’s controlled the game at an unprecedented rate this spring. He looks ready to run a team from Day 1 at the college level and may even have more long-term upside than we previously thought.”
As for UNC’s class ranking, it hasn’t been updated but the addition of Cadeau should give it a boost.
