The North Carolina Tar Heels took a step forward in defending its ACC Baseball Tournament championship with a big win over Virginia on Thursday that clinched them Pool B and a spot in the semifinals. But now with two games separating them and a repeat title, the competition gets tougher.
No. 7 seed North Carolina is set to face No. 3 seed Clemson on Saturday afternoon in the second of two semifinal games.
It’s also a rematch of last weekend’s three-game series that saw the Tigers sweep the Tar Heels in Clemson. The Tigers took game one on Thursday before UNC blew a lead late on Friday in game two. Clemson finished it off on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers continued their streak of being one of the hottest teams in the country.
However, North Carolina is playing some of its best baseball the past two days and doing so without star outfielder Vance Honeycutt.
Can the Tar Heels keep things rolling in Durham and punch their ticket to the title game? Or will they lose their first ACC Tournament game in the last six tries?
