The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken great care in rebuilding the interior of the offensive line by adding a starting guard as well as multiple guys who should steal reserve spots. However, aside from adding Broderick Jones in the 2023 NFL draft, the Steelers really haven’t addressed offensive tackle at all.
But there might be a guy out there who can help. Back on May 4, former Steelers offensive tackle Zach Banner posted on Twitter that he wasn’t done with football and that he just had to learn to accept that the knee injury he suffered took longer than expected to come back from.
The way Banner talked, it sounds like he is getting close to being ready and it would make sense if the Steelers at least wanted to give him a look. Banner appeared in 22 games over three seasons for the Steelers. His best year was in 2019 when Banner had a prominent role as the team’s sixth offensive lineman.
2020 was supposed to be the year Banner took a spot in the starting lineup but tore his ACL in the first game of the season. Pittsburgh was banking on his return in 2021 but when he was unable to recover, then-rookie Dan Moore Jr. was thrust into the starting lineup.
I also have been missing for a while, and I want everyone to know I’ve just been working out and training my knee.
I have not retired… Im simply just a bigger man who has needed more time to get past a devastating injury…
