Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Jamel Dean may not “make a scene”, but he certain proves his worth on the gridiron every Sunday.
Pro Football Focus released an article on the most underrated players on each NFL team, and they chose Dean as the selection for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here is what PFF had to say about Dean:
Out of 74 cornerbacks who logged at least 600 defensive snaps last season, Dean ranked eighth in terms of overall grade and was one of just three corners to have a coverage grade of at least 75.0 (75.6) to go with a run defense grade of at least 80.0 (82.5). The 73.3 passer rating that Dean allowed into his coverage was the 10th lowest among corners, and he was the only cornerback to record at least five defensive stops without missing a single tackle last year in run defense.
The Bucs certainly see the value in Dean, as they resigned him in free agency to a four-year, $52 million deal as their first big splash move in the beginning of the offseason. Dean has made a stalwart corner duo with his former Auburn teammate and current Tampa Bay teammate Carlton Davis, a partnership that is set to continue in 2023.
Dean was tied with S Mike Edwards and CB Sean Murphy-Bunting for most interceptions by a Buc in 2022 with two each. Those are two players are gone in free agency, but Dean looks to continue his work with Tampa Bay in the post-Brady era.
