Sean Payton hints Javonte Williams could be ready sooner than originally planned

Former UNC football running back Javonte Williams could be ready for the start of Denver Broncos training camp.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels running back Javonte Williams suffered a season-ending injury last year when he tore his ACL and LCL in Week 4 of the 2022 season.

Williams had a promising rookie campaign that gave fans high hopes in Denver despite having to split carries with Melvin Gordon. While the injury sidelined him for the final 14 weeks and the start of this offseason, there might be some good news in terms of his injury recovery.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton met the media on Saturday from rookie minicamp and was asked about Williams’ progress. From there, he delivered good news saying there’s a ‘good chance’ he will be ready for the start of training camp and there’s hope he won’t go on the PUP list:

There was initial thoughts that Williams could miss the entire offseason and even some time into the regular season. That would be disappointing for Williams going into his third year with the franchise.

But now with this news from Payton, there is hope he will be back sooner rather than later.
