Auburn’s need for a quarterback became dire as the final week of the spring transfer portal window began. However, their prayers were answered as two quality candidates emerged, Nebraska‘s [autotag]Casey Thompson[/autotag] and Michigan State‘s [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag].
The former paid a visit to the Plains and was rumored to have enjoyed his time on campus. However, a few days after Thompson’s visit, Thorne announced that he would be committing to Auburn to throw his hat into the quarterback battle.
Because of this, Thompson was left with no choice but to go in another direction. On Wednesday, Thompson revealed where his new home would be.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Thompson will be transferring to Florida Atlantic, where he will reconnect with his former head coach at Texas, Tom Herman.
Thompson played for Herman at Texas during his first two college seasons in 2019 and 2020. Over those two seasons, Thompson completed 20-of-29 passes for 309 yards. His best outing under Herman’s leadership was in Texas’ 55-23 Alamo Bowl win over Colorado on Dec. 29, 2020, when Thompson threw for 180 yards and four touchdowns by completing 8-of-10 passes.
