Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick Myles Murphy is a bit of a long shot to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
That shouldn’t come as too big of a shocker considering the Clemson product figures to feature in a rotation at best while some of his classmates will be every-down players for teams who need bigger contributions right away.
Over at Tipico Sportsbook, Murphy sits tied for the 13th-best odds to win the rookie honors at +2500, the same line as a notable name like Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and others.
Will Anderson, the third overall pick in Jacksonville, leads the way at +370.
If Murphy wasn’t competing for snaps with the likes of Trey Hendrickson, Joseph Ossai and Sam Hubbard, one could presume he would be much higher up the list.
After all, his sheer impressive upside and some of the sacks projections for his career remain intriguing.
So it goes, though, for a player coming off the board at No. 28 to a contending Bengals team trying to get a rotational impact now and a long-term starter later.
