LeBron James comments on Bronny committing to play at USC

LeBron James was proud of Bronny for choosing to play in college after a great run at Sierra Canyon High School.

Bronny James, the eldest son of LeBron James, announced Saturday that he has committed to play college basketball at the University of Southern California.

James, who is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches, was the No. 19 recruit in the class of 2023 in ESPN’s rankings. He was the last American recruit this year to sign with a school and reportedly chose USC over Ohio State and Oregon among others.

LeBron, speaking with Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet after the Los Angeles Lakers knocked off the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals, said he was proud of Bronny for his decision to play in college.

Congratulations to Bronny on the decision that he made. I’m super proud of him. Our family is proud of him. For me, personally, it is even more special to me because it is the first time for someone out of my family to go to college. Obviously, I didn’t go to college either. It is a proud moment to see my son go to college and he is the first one to go to college in my family so I’m super-duper proud, super emotional but just super-duper excited and happy for his journey. Today was a proud day. I couldn’t lose today no matter the outcome of this game. I couldn’t lose today, but I’ll take this cherry on top with this dub.

The 18-year-old James seemingly had several options to consider after graduating from Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles. His parents previously said he was leaning toward going the college route and all signs pointed toward him staying home at USC.

The decision to commit to USC figures to make the Trojans one of the favorites in the NCAA Tournament next season. The team also secured commitments from the top recruit, Isaiah Collier, and the No. 4 overall center, Arrinten Page.

Certainly, the decision to stay in Los Angeles was a big factor in Bronny committing to USC. He will begin the next chapter of his career after a stellar run in high school.
