Per CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Colorado is set to host the defending MAAC champion Iona Gaels in 2023-24.
CU head coach Tad Boyle typically schedules games against stronger nonconference opponents in seasons that he believes the Buffs could be strong, and this potential contest against Iona fits that script.
In 2022-23, Iona finished 27-8 overall and was a No. 13 seed in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, falling to eventual champion UConn, 87-63, in the first round.
Colorado is currently projected as a March Madness team heading into next season with five-star incoming freshman Cody Williams and TCU transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr. joining returning stars Tristan da Silva and KJ Simpson in Boulder.
Iona, meanwhile, lost head coach Rick Pitino to St. John’s and watched leading scorers Walton Clayton Jr. and Daniss Jenkins transfer out.
It was also reported in April that Colorado will compete in the 2023 Sunshine Slam.
