From pre-season top five to struggling to make the NCAA Tournament, it’s been a very frustrating season for fans and especially Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. For the most part, the Aggies have hit the ball well and played some solid defense in most of the games this season. The most glaring issue has come on the mound and with it being this late in the year is still concerning they only have one or two pitchers they actually trust.
D1baseball recently put out their field of 64 projections where Texas A&M currently sits as a three-seed to face two-seed UC Santa Barbara. With three SEC series left and one-midweek game, ideally, the Aggies need to win at least two of the three series and the midweek to feel comfortable making it into the tournament without sweating bullets in the process.
Carter Karels at 247 sports noted that during a D1baseball podcast they gave their thoughts on the Aggies path forward on getting a tournament bid.
“A&M, their RPI is not in great shape right now,” Etheridge said during the podcast. “They may need to get to 14 (SEC wins). … Most likely to least likely (to make the tournament), I would probably go Alabama, Auburn, A&M. I think they are all going to get in, but that would be the order that I would have them. And Georgia would be fourth.”
Its crunch time and the Aggies really need to be laser focused on these last 10 games or they might be sitting at home with the rest of us watching on TV. There would be nothing worse for a fan than to the Aggies to miss the tournament then get bombarded with article after article with the Texas A&M baseball team listed as one of the bigger disappointments on the 2023 season. Let hope the get it together so we can enjoy some extra baseball this year.
