USC transfer target Aneesah Morrow commits to LSU and Kim Mulkey

This is a tough blow for USC, but hardly unexpected. Meanwhile, @LSUTigersWire has the national title favorite for 2024.

The USC women’s basketball program is trying to build a championship identity and a standard of elite performance. Head coach Lindsay Gottlieb and assistant coach Beth Burns are definitely moving in the right direction, but their project isn’t a quick fix. It will take time. The Trojans were reminded of that unsatisfying yet unavoidable reality on Friday.

Aneesah Morrow, one of the elite women’s basketball transfers still in the portal, committed to LSU. USC and South Carolina were the other finalists in the running, but Morrow chose Kim Mulkey and the reigning national champions.

LSU Wire has more on the story:

“If it wasn’t already readily apparent, it is now: Kim Mulkey is building an absolute machine at LSU,” Tyler Nettuno wrote.

“The Tigers women’s basketball team — which is already the odds-on favorite to repeat as national champions in 2024 — got even better on Friday as former DePaul forward Aneesah Morrow announced her commitment to LSU via the transfer portal.”

LSU is the clear-cut favorite to win the 2024 national title. USC can’t put itself in that conversation just yet. It will be interesting to see if the Trojans can land a high-value transfer piece. That player won’t be as good as Morrow or offer the same level of upside, but after missing out on Morrow, USC needs a Plan B to add some quality to its roster. UCLA and Utah are widely seen as the favorites to win the Pac-12 in women’s basketball next season. USC does need another notable addition to come closer to the Bruins and Utes.
