Even with the transfer portal and the way it has changed the sport, building a football team through recruiting is still the most important part.
Arkansas has always been…well, OK enough at that. The Razorbacks have seen most classes over the last 15, 20 years – about the amount of time tracking the ranking of classes has been mainstream – be ranked inside the Top 30, Top 35. But they’re also almost always in the bottom half, if not the bottom fourth, of the SEC.
Sam Pittman isn’t changing the Hogs’ approach, exactly. He and his staff will still largely focus on the areas they always have: the South. This time of year they will concentrate efforts mostly on Arkansas and Texas. The latter state is always among the most fruitful. The former depends on the year.
Director of Football Operations Patrick Doherty told WholeHogSports that Pittman makes it a priority that his assistants have Arkansas and most of Texas on lock. Meaning, Pittman wants his coaches to know high-school coaches in those states perfectly.
Arkansas’ start to the Class of 2024 has been solid with such an approach. The Hogs have the 14th-rated class in the country, per 247Sports, with seven of the nine commits rated at four stars.
