Packers sign QB Jordan Love to contract extension through 2024

Instead of exercising Jordan Love’s fifth-year option, the Packers signed the quarterback to a contract extension through 2024.

The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love agreed to terms on a contract extension that adds a year to his rookie deal and keeps him under contract in Green Bay through the 2024 season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The terms in 2024, per Schefter: One year, worth up to $22.5 million, with $13.5 million guaranteed.

The new deal comes at the Tuesday deadline of the team’s decision to use the fifth-year option on Love’s deal. Instead of fully guaranteeing the 2024 season with the fifth-year option worth a little over $20.2 million, the Packers upped the potential compensation for Love over the two years while lowering the total guaranteed money.

Love, a first-round pick in 2020, will be a first-year starter in 2023 after sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons.

Love’s base salary was set to be a little under $2.3 million in 2023. It’s possible the Packers adjusted his salary this year in the contract extension.
