The New England Patriots selected cornerback Isaiah Bolden out of Jackson State in the seventh round on Saturday. No other HBCU players were taken in this year’s draft.
On Saturday, Sanders tweeted that he was “ashamed” that only one player was selected in the entire draft from an HBCU. Bolden responded to that tweet on Monday and agreed with his former coach on the matter.
During his run with Jackson State, Bolden recorded seven pass breakups in 11 games last season. He is also known for his speed, as he ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at his pro day. The speed will allow him to at the very least have a shot at making the roster during training camp. He could see a role as a kick returner, while others see him as a safety.
Only time I’ll speak on this
I agree 1000%
with @DeionSanders statement
And beyond thankful for the opportunity to be selected by the patriots let get to work— I.B (@isaiahbolden23) May 1, 2023
Bolden will be looking to run with this opportunity with the Patriots, and given his unique athletic gifts, it shouldn’t take long for him to show the coaching staff what he’s all about.
