Though nine Michigan football players were selected in the 2023 NFL draft, one player was left out.
Fifth-year cornerback Gemon Green had an option to return to school, as his twin brother had, but he opted to move on, seeking a career at the next level. That plan didn’t quite work out as he had hoped. Seven rounds and 259 picks went by, and Green never heard his name called.
However, he will still have an opportunity to make a 53-man roster and achieve his dreams in the pro ranks.
According to MLive’s Aaron McMann, Green is signing as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants, where he’ll join former Wolverine Ben Bredeson.

Green went from being a liability in the defensive backfield to an asset within the same season. He earned his first opportunity to start in 2020, and he drew Michigan football fans’ attention for all the wrong reasons, starting in Week 2 against rival Michigan State. However, by the final game of that shortened season, Week 6 against Penn State, he was a force on the field.
He had his ups and downs, with the downs mostly being injuries in both 2021 and 2022, but he generally kept his receiver from making big plays, with a few exceptions.
Green’s counterpart, DJ Turner, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of this year’s draft.
