The Detroit Lions traded back and ended up grabbing quarterback Hendon Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Hooker is a talented player who saw his draft stock take a hit due to both his age and a leg injury he suffered last season at Tennessee.
But is his age really a concern?
With this pick, the Lions now have an experienced and accomplished quarterback to back up Jared Goff. He could potentially develop into a future starter.

Hooker is an interesting player as he plays well in the pocket but is athletic enough to take a few runs himself when needed. With the offensive line that Detroit has, as well as the arsenal of skill players the Lions have put together, Hooker should have everything he needs to be successful if he has to step in for Goff.
As long as his recovery is on track, he should be the primary backup to Goff this season. Detroit also brought back Nate Sudfeld in free agency, who was their only reserve quarterback last season.
This could mean that there will be a competition throughout training camp for the primary backup role, but Hooker could have the upper hand given his draft status.
