Instant analysis of Tampa Bay’s YaYa Diaby pick

Louisville’s YaYa Diaby is an incredibly talented but very raw defensive end prospect.

With new Bucs EDGE YaYa Diaby, it’s all about the potential.

Diaby ran a 4.51 40-yard dash and had a 1.56s 10-yard split, making him a loaded gun when he lines up every play. He also scored second among all defensive ends in Relative Athletic Score, or RAS, proving he has the physical gifts to succeed in the NFL.

The problem there is that Diaby is a project that will need to be molded. He doesn’t have a lot of reliable pass-rushing moves to use at the next level and his run attack could use some work — his experience in production is also limited, as his best collegiate season was his last in Louisville when he netted nine sacks. He’s a work in progress, and with EDGE Shaq Barrett possibly on the way out, the Bucs may not be able to wait that long.

Diaby has upside, but with players like Clark Phillips still on the board, it is perhaps a bit of a strange pick given the circumstances.
