Spring practices are in the books for college football teams as the focus shifts to the summer and upcoming 2023 season. With the transfer portal open, rosters can change in a hurry before they are finally set.
And now, USA TODAY Sports is ready to release its rankings for the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Eddie Timanus dropped his rankings post-spring practice with Florida State taking the top spot followed by No. 2 Clemson. The Seminoles being ranked high is not a shocker, but being No. 1 is a little bit of a surprise. While you don’t have to scroll far to see UNC, they check in at No. 6 and the biggest question from Timanus on the Tar Heels is if the defensive line can generate more pressure:
The Tar Heels recorded just 17 sacks in 2022, a major reason the team stumbled down the stretch despite earning a spot in the ACC championship game. Mack Brown liked what he saw from the group in the spring, especially from veteran tackle Kevin Hester, but the team figures to turn to the portal to build more depth.
North Carolina is behind Florida State, Clemson, Pitt, North Carolina State and Wake Forest in the rankings.
But like we said, a lot can and will change between now and Week 1. These rankings will look a lot different down the line.
